KITCHY EATS

I've added a new segment to Kitchy articles: Kitchy Endorsements, Kitchy Supplies, Kitchy TV, and now Kitchy Eats! I will be reporting on my favorite Los Angeles eateries, be they fancy four stars or a cart tucked away in Culver City. I feel very strongly that Los Angeles has some of the best food in the world, with it's immense diversity and the influence of California Cuisine's light touch, emphasizing seasonal, fresh flavors. I hope you check out these spots and enjoy them as much as I do!

John O' Groats: My Favorite Breakfast in LA

When I'm in the mood for a "greasy spoon" breakfast, John O'Groats on Pico near Beverly Glen is my top choice. Pumpkin Pancakes and the outstanding biscuits are the main draws for me, but my friends and family love their twists on eggs benedict (which can come served on a crab cake or with artichokes) and amazing omelet's.  On the weekend they can get quite busy, but the free coffee cart out front keeps any violent riots at bay.  The decor is somewhere between an old school diner and your family's living room, giving it a cozy comfortable vibe.  Some say the best cure after a rough night is the hair of the dog that bit you, but I'd rather have two eggs any style and a cup of coffee, thank you.

My favorite pumpkin spice pancakes

Delicious Huevos O'Groats on a tortilla made from biscuit dough, topped with black beans, sauteed onions and peppers, and two eggs over medium.  Yum!

My two eggs any-style with their light and fluffy biscuits.  I love smothering one half with jam, and using the other as a vessel for my over medium eggs.
