I spend a good deal of my blogging time strolling through the pages of wedding blogs (
100 Layer Cake and
Style me Pretty are two of my favorite). Not because I'm an actual bride to be, but because weddings are the ultimate parties. Food, stationary, flowers, fashion, favors, all of the different elements culminate in the creation of a mood, one that suites the couple throwing it to a T. You want the guests walking away to say, "Man, that was so
them, wasn't it?" It's as intimate and personal as a party can get while still maintaining a 50 head count. While flipping through the pictures of gorgeous dresses, amazing scenery, and general revelry, I'm sometimes struck by how such individualism can give birth to trends. It almost seems to start with one person doing it at their wedding, then a bridesmaid whose big day is coming up loves the idea and does it at hers, and so on and so forth until you have a full blown craze on your hands. Mustaches are that current craze. They are always hilarious. They harken back to the days of Groucho Marx or Lord Buckley or Dali. Hipsters tattoo them onto the inside of their fingers. And now mustaches are the top party favor or prop popping up at weddings. When I first noticed them, I was completely charmed. But now I feel like the sparkle is dying down (incidentally, sparklers are another craze at the moment). I guess it goes this way with any fad, though, so I'll just keep my eyes peeled for the next one (faux beards? pipes? antlers? my guess is as good as any).
