As I posted Udupi rasam/Tomato saaru recipe, my readers requested me to post the Udupi rasam powder recipe as well. Udupi rasam powder is the King as it is used in many of the Udupi recipes like Avalakki upkari, brinjal palya, bitter guard palya and many more. If you have this powder handy, you can prepare a simple rasam without toor dal in a jiffy. So here I go with Udupi rasam powder.
Ingredients

Cumin seeds- 1/2 bowl
Fenugreek seeds- 1/2 bowl
Red Chillies- 30-40 in number
Curry leaves- 3 to 4 strands
Oil- 1/2 bowl
(Bowl used for measurement is shown in the picture.)
Serves
3 to 4 table spoons of this Udupi rasam powder is enough for preparing rasam once. This measurement of rasam powder can last up to 3 months if you prepare rasam once or twice a week.
Method
- Add 3 table spoon of oil and fry red chillies.
- Then add remaining oil and fry coriander seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and curry leaves one after the other. Make sure the species not get burnt.Keep it aside and let it cool.
- Once the roasted species reach room temperature, powder it in mixer.
- Now the Udupi rasam powder is ready. Let it cool and store it in a air tight container.
