Ladies finger Recipes- Bende Saasmi/Bende Kai Saasmi

            Easy and tasty rice accompaniment using ladies finger is "Bende Saasmi". Bende Saasmi is one of the tasty ladies finger recipes which we all love at our home. Usually I prepare two side dishes for rice everyday which includes rasam/curry of any vegetable and tambli, saasmi, Kayi rasa, stir fry(palya) or chutney of greens or vegetables. So today let me post bende kayi saasmi. Hope you will try this and enjoy with rice.

Bende Saasmi Ingredients
  • Ladies finger/Okra/Bende kai- 10 to 12 pieces
  • Grated coconut- 6 to 7 tbsp
  • Red chilly (byadagi)- 1
  • Mustard seeds- 1/4 tbsp
  • Salt- 3/4 tbsp
  • Tamarind- Small gooseberry size
  • Oil- 3 tbsp

Seasoning Ingredients
Oil- 1 tbsp
Mustard seeds- 1/2 tbsp
Urad dal- 1/2 tbsp
Red chilly- 1
Curry leaves- few

Preparation
  • Wash and wipe the ladies finger till dry with clean towel. Otherwise they would become sticky while cutting.Chop them into small pieces.

Method
  • Heat pan/kadai adding 3 tea spoon of oil and add chopped ladies finger  to it. Fry the chopped ladies finger till brown and crispy.

  • Grind grated coconut, mustard seeds, red chilly, tamarind and salt in to fine paste. Add water while grinding to get the consistency of chutney.
  • Add the fried bendi pieces to the ground paste from above step. Mix well.
  • Now heat seasoning pan adding oil, mustard seeds, urad dal, broken red chilly and curry leaves. Add this to the bende saasmi.

  • Now bende saasmi is ready to be served with hot rice.
Note:
  • You can replace red chilly with green chilly. It tastes equally good.
  • Frying bende till  crispy is very important. It gives nice taste.
